What to do when everything seems against you?

Kilimanjaro, Uhuru peakPsalm 121:1 “I lift up my eyes to the hills where does my help come from?  My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

Sitting in the snow at 17.000 feet, my body was totally exhausted as my lungs fought desperately for air. My head seemed almost to burst with pain, as I vomited again and again. I was 18 years old and had gotten the rare opportunity to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa. The mountain guides became very anxious and said, “Chris, if you throw up just one more time, we will send you back to camp with one of our people.” What was I to do? Everything seemed to press me to give up?

Very often, the urge to give up is biggest shortly before the goal is reached! I believe that many Christians give up just before their breakthrough comes… just before your loved one gets saved… just before the financial breakthrough comes… just before the sickness is healed… just before the church experiences a mighty revival… just before relationships are restored!

What do you do, when the battle is tough? Do you give up, or do you let God’s strength rise in you?

Discouraged, I sat there in the snow. The situation and the people around me pushed me to give up. I prayed quietly. Suddenly, I felt a surge inside me. My will took over. I got on my feet, resolved not to allow the symptoms of mountain sickness any longer. For the next 3 hours I fought. Each step was a battle. Soon I realized I was no longer throwing up. When we arrived at the summit, the scene unfolded before my eyes. Seeing the beautiful African landscape from a height of 19.000 feet was breathtaking! Joy filled my heart. I had conquered Mount Kilimanjaro despite the hindrances and the doubts of the others. How rewarding it was not to give up!

Let God fill you with His power and rise to the challenges today! Don’t give up! If you are sincere before God, you cannot loose!

Psalm 91:13 “You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. Because he loves me says the Lord, I will rescue him…”
